Signs That It’s Time to Schedule Service For Your Mini Split

Ductless mini splits are excellent systems for both heating and cooling, but they aren’t exempt from having problems every now and then. When you do suspect that something is wrong with one or more of your units, you need to schedule a ductless mini split tuneup in Washington Court House, OH.

You can keep reading to learn more about some of the signs that can indicate it’s time to call a professional in to help with your ductless mini split. Making timely repairs when something goes wrong is one of the best ways to ensure a long lifespan for your ductless mini split.

Water Leaks

Water should never leak out of your ductless mini split units. Leaks indicate that the condensate drain line is clogged. Aside from having water leak out and potentially causing damage to the unit and your home, this also means that humidity in the air is not draining outside of your home.

The condensate drain line is where humidity droplets form and channel outside as part of the cooling cycle. With a leak, that water is reevaporating back into the air and ultimately making your home feel warmer than it really is.

Refrigerant Problems

It’s also possible that you notice refrigerant leaking out of your ductless mini split. If this happens, you shouldn’t touch the chemical or attempt to clean it up on your own. You will know the difference between a water leak and a refrigerant leak because refrigerant has a distinct odor. However, don’t breathe it too closely or it can hurt your sinuses and lungs. You may also pinpoint refrigerant problems due to a lack of heating or cooling in one or more of your units.

Lack of Airflow

It is important to keep in mind that any of these problems can impact a single unit alone or multiple units at the same time. If you hold your hand up to any of the ductless mini splits and notice a lower air pressure than you are used to feeling, the filter may be dirty.

You can try cleaning the filter and see if that solves the problem. If it doesn’t, you may need to call for service so that our team can troubleshoot to find the source of the airflow problem. It’s also possible that a dirty outdoor unit is trapping heat inside your home and impacting how well your ductless units are able to operate.

Unusual Noises or Bad Odors

Ductless units are well known for being very quiet during operation. In fact, they can be quieter than the sound of a person breathing. This makes any noises at all concerning. Even if sounds coming from your ductless mini split are not particularly loud, they may still be serious.

The same goes for bad odors. A musty smell can point to a condensate drain line clog or moisture inside of the system allowing mold growth. A burning odor can mean that something inside of the unit is overheating or burning up.
